When US Congresswoman Donna Edwards (D-MD) visited Wabtec Corporation’s facility in Germantown, MD, she learned just how important rail investment is to preserving and creating jobs in her congressional district – and how undoing the current balance in rail regulation could threaten jobs in Montgomery County.
Wabtec officials briefed the Congresswoman on what the plant’s 200+ employees produce and emphasized that Wabtec’s continued success is directly linked to the overall health of the freight rail industry.
In her remarks to Wabtec employees, Rep. Edwards thanked the company and GoRail for making her aware of the fact that so many high tech jobs in her district are dependent on freight rail. She said her knowledge of this connection would be useful in her future consideration of rail policy issues. The Congresswoman took note that Wabtec conducts both R&D and manufacturing on-site in Germantown – a model for public-private cooperation on research and development that keeps jobs in America.
